About: The CreatiVets songwriting program pairs veterans with accomplished songwriters and music artists to allow them the opportunity to creatively express their story through a song. The veteran travels to Nashville, Tennessee, where he or she is met by a veteran that has gone through the program and can help make the veteran comfortable with the experience, and then participates in a songwriting session to write a song that is recorded and made available for the veteran to share with family and friends.

About: Located in Branchburg, New Jersey, Frontline Arts is a socially engaging arts nonprofit with a suite of fully equipped printmaking studios for intaglio, relief, screen printing, digital and letterpress, as well as papermaking and book arts. The center offers workshops yearround, as well as residencies for veterans. Residencies can be completed any time during the year, in-person or remotely. Frontline Arts provides full and partial financial assistance to cover travel, housing and studio costs. Scholarships and residencies are open to any veterans. The next application window is set to open early 2025.

About: The Evered House artist residency hosts veteran-artists and those who serve in conflict zones, as well as first responders and other essential workers who serve our communities. The Evered House provides a safe and secure space for individuals with important stories to tell. The house brings together an impressive group of mentors— successful artists and supporters who are available to work with residents in their chosen field. Our mentor board has among its ranks Emmy, Tony and other award winning artists and arts related professionals who are available to mentor our residents during their stay. Founded by writer and director Charles Evered, the program is dedicated to his father, Charles J. Evered (1918–1979) who was a veteran of World War II, Army Air Corps.

The WMAI Artist in Residence is an active or retired service members in any branch of the military. Artists in Residence receive discounted studio rent in return for acting as an ambassador to the program and performing additional duties, such as teaching WMAI classes or curating WMAI-related exhibits. The WMAI Artist in Residence also can create original works of art in their Workhouse studio, exhibit in individual building galleries or campus-wide shows and events, and has the opportunity to share and sell their artwork to the nearly 100,000 Guests who visit the Workhouse each year.

VA Local Art Competition through TOGUS

About: Across the country each year, Veterans enrolled at VA health care facilities compete in a local creative arts competition. The competition includes categories in the visual arts division that range from oil painting to leatherwork to paint-by-number kits. In addition, there are categories in writing as well as the performing arts of dance, drama, and music. Local creative arts competition top winning entries advance to a national judging process and first, second and third place entries are determined at the national level. First place winning Veterans are invited to attend the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival hosted by a different VA facility each year.

VA Recreation Therapists systematically use recreation and therapeutic interventions for the specific purpose of improving the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual functioning of individuals; enhancing well-being; and enabling greater quality of life through recreation participation for individuals with injury, illness, or disability. VA employs approximately 985 Recreation Therapists in the United States. Recreation Therapy provides services to restore, remediate, and rehabilitate functional capabilities for Veterans with injuries, chronic illnesses, and disabling conditions. Recreation Therapy services include assessment and treatment for physical, cognitive, emotional, psychosocial, and leisure deficits. Services are provided based upon applying the best available research evidence, using expert clinical judgment in consideration with the Veteran’s individual goals, preferences, and life pursuits.

The Maine Aviation Historical Society was founded to collect, document and preserve the rich aviation history of the State of Maine.
Civil, commercial, military and recreational flying have been an important part of Maine history. Our goal is to preserve the history of the people and events of the past. From the earliest balloon flights to barn stormer pilots to space travel, Maine has been an active player.
Our collection of artifacts and memorabilia are displayed at the Maine Air Museum at 98 Maine Avenue, Bangor, Maine. The museum is located at Bangor International Airport and, as a point of interest, the museum building is a former cold war era missile assembly and maintenance facility.
