Boothbay Railway Village Museum to host community day in celebration of Maine’s Bicentennial

In honor of Maine’s 201st Birthday, the Railway Village Museum will offer free admission on Saturday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ‘Olde Village Day’ will feature a fun-filled day of festivities for the entire family, old-fashioned style.

Festivities will include standard favorites; train rides, hands- on exploration, and dozens of exhibits throughout the 35-acre property, as well as new features this year, a virtual touring app, and the Iron Horse Antiques and General Store which made its debut over Memorial Day Weekend. Olde Village Day activities will include food, and beverages for all ages (purchase required), live music, a vintage and artisan market, lawn games, a scavenger hunt, an antique engine rally, and the opening of the 200(+1) Bicentennial Exhibit. This celebratory exhibit has been in the construction stage for several months; and will be on display at the museum from July 3 to August 1. Led by the museum’s Director of Curation and Education, Dr. Whitney Lytle, the exhibit is a collaboration between the Railway Village Museum and other statewide historic institutions. The exhibit features artifacts from the Railway Village collection, as well as those on loan from partners, representing individuals and families who contributed to the fabric of our state’s past 200 years.

The Railway Village team is inviting local non-profit organizations to participate in this community celebration, as an opportunity to showcase their organization in an interactive and festive format. Participation is free and interested organizations should contact Lori at 207-671-7676.

The event will also feature an artisan and vintage pop -up market and interested vendors can contact Lori for more information 207-671-7676.

This commemorative event was originally planned for Maine’s official 200th birthday in 2020, but COVID-19 had other plans. The BRVM team is excited to finally celebrate this historic milestone with the community. The event is funded in part by a grant from the Maine 200 Bicentennial Commission.

Season opening: The Railway Village Museum is more than excited to re-open for the season on Father’s Day, June 20. Dads ride free all day!

The RVM is currently growing their team, and has excellent employment opportunities available at this time. For more information contact Steve Markowitz at Steve@RailwayVillage.com or 207-633-4727.
