CALL FOR ART!
The Maine Arts Commission in partnership with the Maine Bureau of Agriculture, Food & Rural Resources invites artists across the state to participate in a new Statewide Call for Art at the Deering Building in Augusta, Maine.
Exhibit Duration: June 1, 2024 – June 1, 2025
Submission Deadline: March 22, 2024, @ 5:00 p.m.
The Deering Building, situated at 90 Blossom Lane, Augusta, Maine, houses the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s (DACF) Bureau of Agriculture, Food & Rural Resources. That means Deering is home to many of the Bureau programs that support Maine farmers, strengthen our food system, and invest in our rural communities. These include Agricultural Resource Development, Quality Assurance and Regulation, Animal and Plant Health, and PFAS Response. Deering also houses the Bureau’s three quasi-independent commissions—the Maine Milk Commission, the Maine Harness Racing Commission, and the Board of Pesticides Control—plus the Bureau shares space with DACF’s Bureau of Resource Information and Land Use Planning’s Maine Natural Areas Program, DACF’s Bureau of Forestry’s Division of Forest Health and Monitoring, and the Department of Education’s Childhood Nutrition Program. LocationThis inaugural exhibit spans three floors of the Deering Building, featuring wall art and sculptures. All displayed artworks, including sculptures, will be available for sale during the exhibit, with prices listed on labels. The Deering Building accommodates numerous meetings, conferences, exams, educational events, and various gatherings that provide opportunities for exposure to the artwork. ThemeWe're seeking artwork that resonates with the work being done for the people of Maine in the Deering Building. Themes could include food, food festivals, school food, farms, farm workers, agricultural fairs, healthy trees and plants, farm animals, pets, veterinarians, beekeeping, insects, gardens, and gardeners. The submission deadline is March 22, 2024 5:00 p.m. EST. EXHIBIT TIMELINE:
