Meetinghouse Arts Stage and: A Panel Discussion

As part of our October 2023 Truth Tellers Series at Meetinghouse Arts, join us on Thursday, October 26 at 6:00 PM for a screening of the film Dawnland, followed by a Panel Discussion.

Dawnland is a film about the untold story of Indigenous child removal in the United States through the nation’s first-ever state-endorsed Maine Wabanaki-State Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). The Truth and Reconciliation Commission investigated the devastating impact of Maine’s child welfare practices on the Wabanaki people.

The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Esther Anne, Co-founder of Wabanaki REACH (whose portrait can be seen in our Robert Shetterly exhibition in our Art Gallery under her former name, Esther Attean); Heather Augustine, Community Education Development Coordinator at Wabanaki REACH, member of the Elsipogtog First Nation of Canada and the daughter of an Indian Residential School survivor; Penthea Burns, Co-founder of Wabanaki REACH; and Carol Wishcamper, Co-chair of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission.
