Emerging Artist Awards-Visual - SBCF

  • January 31, 2019

The Saint Botolph Club Foundation is seeking recommendations for candidates to receive its 2019 Emerging Artists Awards.  Now in its 55th year, the program has provided more than 572 grants to artists based in New England. Grants are awarded in three disciplines: literature, music, and the visual arts.

Emerging Artists Award in the Visual Arts. Each year the SBCF awards $3,000 grants to Emerging Artists who live and work in New England.  Grants may be used for a variety of purposes, including: travel; research; participation in workshops or residencies; tools or supplies; and underwriting time off to complete a project or commission.

  1.  Candidates of any age should be emerging artists who have completed their undergraduate education but have yet to achieve significant public or professional recognition.  Candidates must currently live and work in New England.  Please note that an artist who has had multiple solo exhibitions in established galleries, institutions, and/or museums will be considered too accomplished to receive a grant.

Recommendation procedure. You are invited to recommend one candidate by submitting a letter that describes the candidate’s demonstration of significant promise and explain how the award will make a substantial difference in the artist’s professional life. Recommendation letters should also provide your personal credentials (e.g. teacher, mentor, curator) for judging the candidate’s qualifications. (Note: You may elect to make your nomination anonymous to the candidate; if so, please inform us.)
