Yarmouth, Maine - Royal River Community Players (RRCP) are thrilled to announce an exciting Spoken Word Workshop featuring renowned poet and spoken word artist Maya Williams. Join us for an engaging workshop and meaningful conversations on Saturday, January 11, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

 

Maya Williams (ey/they/she) is an esteemed poet laureate of Portland, ME, holding the position from July 2021 to July 2024. As a religious Black multiracial nonbinary suicide survivor, Maya’s work is profoundly impactful and resonates with audiences far and wide. Eir debut poetry collection, *Judas & Suicide*, was a finalist for the New England Book Award in 2023, and eir second collection, *Refused a Second Date*, was a finalist for a Maine Literary Award. Maya’s third collection, *What's So Wrong with a Pity Party Anyway?*, was recognized as one of four winners of the Garden Party Collective's chapbook prize in 2024.

 

This workshop will introduce the art of spoken word and guide them through several exercises to get them started. Whether participants are seasoned poets or new to the world of spoken word, this event promises inspiration, creativity, and community.  If, after attending, participants find themselves interested in further exploring this craft, RRCP is offering 10-week classes for kids, teens, and adults that delve deeper into the discipline.
