Haystack Announces 2022 Summer Programs

  • January 08, 2022

Deer Isle, Maine – Haystack Mountain School of Crafts has announced its program offerings for the 2022 summer season. Haystack’s Executive Director, Paul Sacaridiz, expressed that, “It’s difficult to believe that two years have passed since we convened summer programs on the Haystack campus. While this period of time has allowed us to imagine new ways of expanding our reach, there is nothing quite like the experience of being together, in person.

The past few years have provided a rare opportunity to make Haystack an even stronger organization. From growing our endowment and increasing scholarship support to completing major studio upgrades across campus, great care has gone into every decision we have made. This coming season features our two-week Open Studio Residency and a remarkable and inspiring group of faculty offering workshops that explore the intersections of craft, art, and design in broad and expansive ways. Nearly all of our workshops are designed for all levels of experience, and regardless of your background, there is a place for you here.

While we plan to resume programming at full capacity, we also recognize the pandemic continues to impact our lives. Much has been learned about how we can safely gather by relying on clear and consistent protocols, and we will continue to be transparent with our local community about our evolving approach to the coming season, and appreciate the support and trust they have placed in us.

We are currently in the process of accepting applications for summer programs and it will be such a pleasure to welcome people back to campus.”

Thirty-seven intensive workshops, led by forty-one instructors, will be held from June through August in a variety of craft media, including basket making, blacksmithing, ceramics, fiber, glass, graphics, metals, wood, and writing. Technical Assistantship and Scholarship opportunities are available.

In addition, Haystack will host the two-week Open Studio Residency, which is free for accepted participants. Deadlines for 2022 are March 1 for Open Studio Residency, summer workshop scholarship applications, and summer workshop Technical Assistant applications, and March 15 for general summer workshop applications.

Haystack’s Visiting Artist Series extends our commitment to providing time and space for the development of new ideas in a variety of disciplines through these two-week residencies. Embedded as part of workshop sessions, visiting artists also augment the summer programming schedule by living and working on campus, providing informal afternoon workshops, and giving a presentation about their work.

Throughout the summer Haystack faculty, visiting artists, staff, and scholarship students offer evening presentations—these events are all free and open to the public. Read more about the School’s programs on the Haystack website: haystack-mtn.org
