SURRY, MAINE (November 29, 2012) – The Institute for Humane Education (IHE) is pleased to announce that its board of directors has approved a slate of three new board members to serve two-year terms. They are:

Tony Scucci, MSW, (Portland, ME) is a senior governance associate at BoardSource. He has over 35 years experience in the nonprofit sector and provides individualized board consultation and training, and conducts workshops on governance issues.  In his private practice, Tony specializes in board development, executive coaching, executive transitions, managing change, team-building, board/staff relations, and strategic human resource development. Clients have included the National Association of Independent Schools, Maine Arts Commission and Goodwill Industries. Tony graduated with a BA in Sociology from the Univ. of Mass., Amherst, and with a Masters in Social Work from Boston College.  

Neil Hornish, (Granby, CT) is Co-Founder and Director of Education of the Compassionate Living Project in CT that creates and implements classroom projects for schools grades 4 through college. He has produced a public access TV show “Animal Matters” for 10 years and is also the Chair of the Conservation Commission in Granby, CT. A Senior Design Engineer at Hamilton Sundstrand, Neil is an alumnus of IHE receiving his M.Ed. from Cambridge College in 2005. Prior to his M.Ed., he received an M.B.A. with a concentration in Environmental Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a B.S. in Mechanical Design from the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Elizabeth Crawford, (Wilmington, NC) is a faculty member in the department of Elementary, Middle Level, and Literacy Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She holds degrees in Anthropology, Elementary Education, and Curriculum Leadership, which have helped to inform her teaching, research, and curriculum development in global education for the Peace Corps World Wise Schools and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. A teacher educator specializing in social studies and global education, she received a Doctor of Philosophy from The College of William & Mary, a M.S. in Elementary Education from Florida State University, and a B.A. in Anthropology from Univ. of Georgia.  

Zoe Weil, president and co-founder of the Institute for Humane Education, commented: “We are very honored to have these three new volunteers to help govern IHE into the future. They each bring unique skills and perspectives and will be strong stewards of the organization’s mission. We look forward to their contributions.”
