Monmouth, Maine – Theater at Monmouth opens Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream as the Fall Show following the 2022 It’s Greek (and Roman) to ME! Summer Repertory Season. William Shakespeare’s magical comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs Thursday, September 14 through Sunday September 25. Shakespeare's beloved tale of love and chaos filled with mischievous fairies, quarreling lovers, and a floundering amateur acting troupe takes center stage in this delightful tale of joy and romance that famously declares, "Lord, what fools these mortals be." A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows the journey of four young lovers as they find their way through the forest and to each other. But as Lysander says “the course of true love never did run smooth.” Full of madcap chases and mistaken identities, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is an exploration of the mystery, mayhem, and madness of love.

Hermia loves Lysander, Demetrius loves Hermia, Helena loves Demetrius, Theseus and Hippolyta are almost newlyweds and the already-complex marriage of the immortal Queen and King of Fairyland was rocky even before one of them fell for an amateur actor-turned-ass. Run away to the Fairyland with young lovers, a rag tag group of amateur actors, and one mischievous sprite in Shakespeare’s most mixed-up comedy.

While A Midsummer Night’s Dream has many themes, Director Adam P. Blais chose to focus on the one most central to the story, love. Blais says “the show is a story about love, marriage, and the complexities of relationships (Human and Fairy).” Blais continues that in Midsummer, Shakespeare reminds us that being able “to give ourselves freely to another, we must first be willing to unapologetically accept ourselves.”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream features Owen Halstad as Theseus/Oberon/Snout, Austen Horne as Hippolyta/Titania/Starveling, Ethan Miller as Demetrius/Snug/Cobweb, Shaan Sharma as Lysander/Quince/Mustardseed, Ray K. Souen as Egeus/Helena/Flute/Puck, and Casey Turner as Hermia/Bottom/Fairy. Directed by Adam P. Blais; Set Design by Jim Alexander, Costume Design by Michelle Handley, Lighting design by Erin Fauble and Sound Design by Rew Tippin, with Stage Management by Hailey Glick.

Post-Performance Discussions. Join us on selected weekend evening performances for Post-Performance Discussions with the cast and creative team. Discuss the critical historical, artistic, and cultural perspectives of the worlds of each individual play. Post-Performance Discussion will take place on the following date: Sunday September 18.

Tickets, Subscriptions, and Ways to Save. Single tickets for the Fall Show are $37 for adults, $32 for senior citizens, and $23 for students (18 and under).

Opening Nights are Educator Nights. Educators receive 20% off the general ticket price with a valid photo ID at the Box Office.

Under 30 Rush Tickets. For patrons under 30, $10 Rush Tickets are available for up to 20 audience members at each performance in the season excluding the Family Show and Special Events.
