EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MAINE JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL

We are seeking an enthusiastic, strategic, and visionary leader to oversee the Maine Jewish Film Festival. This full-time Executive Director (ED) role entails managing the organization’s finances and operations, ensuring alignment with our mission, and building on our 25-year history of success. Collaboration with the Board, staff, partners, and other organizations is key to success.

Established in 1998, the Maine Jewish Film Festival is a non-profit 501(c)(3) based in Portland, Maine, with a mission to enrich, educate, and entertain through cultural programs rooted in the global Jewish experience.

Requirements:

  • Prior nonprofit leadership experience
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent public speaking and written communication skills
  • Proven fundraising, donor cultivation, and grant writing experience
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree required (consideration given to relevant experience in lieu of degree)

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • Fundraising experience, including grant writing and major gift solicitations
  • Strong research and negotiation skills
  • Budgeting and special event planning experience
  • Ability to maintain high-performance standards and accountability
  • Proficiency in software applications (Quickbooks, Microsoft Office, donor management, social media)
  • Willingness to engage with diverse Maine communities
  • Strong networking abilities
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture and the Jewish experience 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Board to review and revise the organization’s vision, mission, and goals
  • Design feedback mechanisms for audience and donor input
  • Create and manage festival and project timelines
  • Develop, budget, and implement festival events and programs
  • Oversee ticketing operations and provide customer service
  • Grow MJFF through donor and corporate sponsorship development, marketing, and grants
  • Implement marketing strategy, increase visibility, and manage PR/Press relations
  • Foster relationships with businesses, arts organizations, and community leaders
  • Manage financial resources and maintain relationships with financial partners
  • Hire and supervise staff and volunteers

Start Date: March 1 (negotiable)

Salary: $70,000; benefits negotiable; professional development funds available, SIMPLE IRA, and Paid Time Off

This position offers the flexibility of remote work while requiring candidates to be based in the Greater Portland area to facilitate occasional in-person meetings and collaboration.
