In concert with the Environmental Studies Program and the Center for the Arts and Humanities at Colby College, Common Street Arts is pleased to present the work of Nathalie Miebach: Blizzards, Gales and Ocean Buoys from March 10-April 20, 2013. This exhibition will coincide with the residency of the first Mellon Distinguished Fellow in Environmental Studies, Dr. Carl Safina. An opening reception will be held March 10 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Common Street Arts.

Nathalie’s work is dynamic, thought-provoking, and in its essence, inter-disciplinary—she incorporates art, music, science, and technology to engage her audience in thoughtful dialogue about the environment and climate change. Nathalie records storms and weather patterns in the Gulf of Maine and uses this scientific data to inform her complex sculptures based on basket weaving traditions; she adds another expressive dimension by the creation of musical scores that complement and accompany the sculptures. As one can imagine, the work produces a powerful emotional effect through this rich blending of aural and visual elements into a single engaging pattern.
