ON THE VERGE - Fall 2018 Juried Art Exhibition

CREATIVE PORTLAND ART GALLERY

Over twenty artists have been selected for Creative Portland’s upcoming juried art exhibition, ON THE VERGE , which will open on October 25, 2018 and run through April 2019, Monday through Friday, from 10am-4pm. The group art show, representing established and emerging artists from Greater Portland, will feature paintings, photography, prints, drawings, and mixed-media work. For Creative Portland’s third juried exhibition, Executive Director Dinah Minot assembled a volunteer curatorial team of professionals, recruiting a stellar group of curators from arts organizations including: Kate Anker, Running With Scissors, Jamie DeSimone, Portland Museum of Art, Cooper Dragonette, artist, Michel Droge, artist, Danielle Frye, Dorothea & Leo Rabkin Foundation, Jen McDermott, University of Southern Maine Photography Department, Dinah Minot, Creative Portland, and John Ripton, UMVA Gallery. Creative Portland is located at 84 Free Street, directly across from the back entrance of Maine College of Art.

The eclectic group of exhibitors, including old Mainers and new Mainers alike, range from emerging artists in their 20s to established artists from Greater Portland. The final list of artists will be revealed at a private reception on October 24 th and will include the following:

All artwork will be for sale and the exhibit will be open to the public for a six-month period Monday through Friday, from 10am-4pm, through mid-April 2019. A public First Friday Art Walk opening will be held on Friday November 2 from 6-7pm during First Friday Art Walk.

With the theme of “On the Verge” as the subject for the open call, Ms. Minot and the curatorial team asked artists throughout Greater Portland to address that question. The eclectic and promising response from over 100 artists with at least 225 submissions, answered the call with images ranging from abstract paintings, representational scenes, and explicit photographs.

Creative Portland’s third juried show, On the Verge replaces the organization’s second juried exhibition, (Almost) Black & White , which hung from April 2018 to October 2018. As the city of Portland’s official nonprofit arts agency, Creative Portland’s mission is to support the creative economy through the arts by providing essential resources, by fostering partnerships, and by marketing our city’s artistic talents and cultural assets.

The Creative Portland Board of Directors consists of President David Brenerman, Vice President Kate Anker, Treasurer Brian Marshall, as well as Nicole Barna, Peter Bass, Lisa Bloss, Ezekiel Callanan, Mufalo Chitam, City Councilor Kim Cook ( ex officio ), Raffi Der Simonian, Randy Ferrell, Dee Dee Germaine, Emily Isaacson, Daniel Minter, Greg Mitchell ( ex officio ), Gerard Salvo, and Briana Volk.
