Saco Artist Shows New Work in Arts-Science Group Show

  • September 09, 2025

The newest piece in artist Ann Tracy’s Unlikely Universe series, based on photographs taken while she was greening her studio practice, will be shown for the first time at the Forever Ours exhibition opening September 7 at the Bonoff Gallery at St. Albans Church, 855 Shore Rd., Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Gallery hours are 9am-4pm Mondays through Thursdays. A coffee hour artists’ reception is set for Sunday, September 28 from 11 am to 2 pm. The exhibition, which centers on micro-plastics and PFAs and their invasive presence in our lives, continues to October 23, 2025. Tracy will unveil her "Unlikely Universes" series in a solo show at the Oak St, Lofts Gallery in Portland, Maine in October 2026.

“I’m so happy that She Was Unsure if She Belonged in This Universe was juried into the show by Boston artist Gail Bos,” Tracy said. “This is the perfect show for this latest piece in my Unlikely Universe series, which is the result of greening my studio by not dumping micro-plastic contaminated water from washing acrylic paint from brushes. Instead I developed a low tech system of using a metal cup and soaking up the paint from the brush with bamboo paper toweling and then washing in the cup and dumping that water into an aluminum tray where it can safely evaporate and eventually put into solid waste.”

Tracy’s art spans diverse media - from photography to visual art to theatre (actor, director, and playwright) to film and commercial work.  She began working as an actor/dancer/choreographer in Boston and Colorado in the 1970's, filling sketch books and canvases.  She was the first female voice on KTLK radio (Denver) doing news in 1977 and she appeared in the film George B at the Sundance Film Festival in 1996.  She also gave birth to a Sacramento theatre company, Beyond the Proscenium Productions in 1994 and ran it for 15 years.

This New England native moved back to Maine in 2011, after over 40 years in the west.  Tracy has been working in the photography and digital art fields and exhibiting since her first group show in San Francisco in 1998.

Her photography & art have appeared in group shows from Spain to Hungary to New York to Japan.  Tracy was a finalist in the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
