Side x Side, a Portland-based nonprofit educational organization celebrates 10th anniversary with ART Deck-O, a rooftop party and fundraiser.

For the past ten years, Side x Side, has been igniting academic excellence through rigorous creative learning. The Portland-based nonprofit serves Maine public school students and teachers through innovative arts-integrated programs. Side x Side brings artists and educators together to integrate science, technology, literacy, and the humanities with the arts to enhance the school curriculum.

The organization has just announced a special event, ART Deck-O: Side x Side's 10th Anniversary Party and Fundraiser. Festivities will take place on the rooftop deck of Northeast Bank in Portland’s Old Port on Thursday, September 12, 5–7PM. A rain date has been set for Thursday, September 19.

“It’s a party with a purpose,” said Beth Wilbur Van Mierlo, Side x Side’s Executive Director. “Side x Side is dedicated to elevating the arts and strengthening education by supporting classroom teachers, art teachers, and teaching artists in our schools and communities across Maine. We’re inviting the community to join us for celebration, reflection, and inspiration with an evening of captivating performances and delectable provisions. Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of students and educators and ensure that the arts remain a vital part of public education.”

Wilbur Van Mierlo explained, “Our students are facing unprecedented challenges and underserved youth are especially at risk. Side x Side is addressing gaps in the public school system by collaborating with educators to develop engaging projects that expand curiosity and learning in the classroom while supporting all learning styles and abilities.”
