The Kotzschmar Organ Presents "Fiddles & Pipes" in a Music-Filled Celebration

  • May 31, 2024

Portland, May 30, 2024 —  This summer, Merrill Auditorium becomes a vibrant tapestry of sound as the Kotzschmar Organ unites with experts and students from 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth, Maine, for a one-of-a-kind concert experience titled "Fiddles and Pipes."

On Saturday, July 13th at 7pm, music enthusiasts of all ages are invited to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of, where seemingly disparate worlds of instruments and genres coalesce into a harmonious celebration of Maine's musical heritage. Featuring fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, voice, dancers and the majestic sounds of the pipe organ, "Fiddles and Pipes" redefines traditional boundaries, demonstrating the remarkable synergy between diverse musical traditions.

By seamlessly intertwining the realms of multiple folk traditions with the grandeur of the pipe organ, the concert promises to transcend traditional boundaries. This collaboration symbolizes more than mere musical fusion; it captures the essence of community and collaboration inherent in the Maine music scene and exemplified by the Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ. Through the convergence of talent from 317 Main Community Music Center and world-class organist James Kennerley on the Kotzschmar Organ, "Fiddles and Pipes" will serve as a poignant reminder of music's unifying power to foster community bonds and establish common ground.

"I am thrilled to bring 'Fiddles & Pipes' to Portland," said James Kennerley, Portland's Municipal Organist. “ Who could have imagined that the pipe organ would be the perfect duet partner for a rousing Irish or a foot-stomping bluegrass number? This concert is a wonderful opportunity to share the beauty, diversity, and pure joy of Americana music with the community. 317 Main and I have put together a program that showcases a variety of genres, and we can't wait to perform in the stunning Merrill Auditorium."

From toe-tapping melodies to soul-stirring harmonies, the concert promises something for everyone to enjoy. This family-friendly event will be an evening of unforgettable melodies, infectious rhythms, and a joyous celebration of music, community, and the treasured folk traditions of Maine.
