2015 New Artist Search--Elizabeth Moss Galleries
- Date: Recurring Daily Starting December 11, 2014
- Location: Elizabeth Moss Galleries, Falmouth
The Elizabeth Moss Galleries, recently named one of North America’s top 500 galleries by ArtInfo, is accepting submittals for its annual New Artist Search. All entrants will receive constructive feedback from gallery owner Elizabeth Moss, while two winners will earn a show at the gallery with the potential for future gallery representation, as well as a half-page spread in Down East Magazine.
“It’s about giving unknown artists a chance to show their work,” said Moss. “I’m fortunate enough to be in a position to help. Maine plays an important role in American art, and Portland, Maine, is a landing point for many undiscovered artists. It’s exciting to give them an opportunity.”
Moss invites the top 10 artists to interview in person to discuss their talent and technique. She then selects two winners from that pool. However, Moss personally reviews each submittal, providing constructive feedback to each artist.
“With the New Artists Search, I’m trying to introduce talented unknown artists to the public,” she said. “But I’m also trying to cultivate talent by providing the feedback that every budding artist needs. When I review someone’s work, no matter where they are in their development, I’m hoping to give them something that will improve their work and inspire them to keep at it and hopefully re-submit their work in future New Artist Searches.”
The New ArtistSearch runs through February 2015. Upon completion of registration, artists will receive an email link to upload ten to fifteen images and an artist statement.Although new talent is in the title, all are welcome to apply. Accepted mediums are painting, sculpture, textile, mixed media or photographic arts.
