Art Workshop: How to Draw a Bird

  • Date: November 12, 2025
  • Location: Northeast Harbor Library - Mellon Room, Northeast Harbor

Drawing is an act of deep observation and translation. It can change the way you understand birds – and see the world. Susannah Fisher will show you how to build a bird on the page using simple shapes to get proportions before developing form and feather texture. By the end of this class, you will have the tools to sketch birds from observation. No prior drawing experience is necessary, just the willingness to try something new. Pencils, kneaded erasers, and paper will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a utility knife (for sharpening) and a handheld mirror (for reflected perspective). Susannah Fisher is a realist painter gaining recognition for her‬ detailed bird portraits. Her work invites viewers to appreciate the beauty and vulnerability of the avian world, inspiring awe and environmental awareness.‬ She teaches drawing and painting nature online and in-person. This project is supported in part by The Maine Arts Commission, which receives support in part from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
