Join us at the Olson House each Thursday through October 10 for an informal conversation with David Rockwell, the nephew of artist Andrew Wyeth. The conversation will take place at 4 p.m. each week.

The Olson House was the subject of numerous works of art by Andrew Wyeth, including his well-known 1948 painting Christina’s World, owned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. In the summer of 1939, seventeen-year-old Betsy James, who would later marry Andrew Wyeth, introduced him to Christina and Alvaro Olson. Over the next three decades, a growing friendship developed between the artist and the Olsons, and Wyeth expressively documented life on the isolated, saltwater farm in many of his works. David Rockwell will share with visitors his recollections of his uncle Andrew Wyeth, the Olsons, and summers in Cushing.

Rockwell has a B.S. in Education and a MA in History from Emporia State University, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Studies from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He has been teaching at Suffield Academy in Suffield, Connecticut, for 49 years and currently teaches Environmental/Political and Educational Philosophy, as well as Native American Studies. He chaired the History Department there for 25 years and is presently the Chair of the Leadership Department.

Cost: $12; $7 as an add-on to Farnsworth admission; Free for members
