Haystack Make + Take: The Value of Repair: A Visible Mending Workshop
- Date: March 6, 2026
- Time: 05:30 PM - 07:30 PM
- Location: Haystack's Center for Community Programs, Deer Isle
Visible mending is the art of restoring our clothing with creativity, not only repairing the tear but adding beauty and story to our beloved garments along the way, while also saving them from the landfill. In this two hour workshop and stitch circle, we will learn the basics of visible mending, starting from threading the needle, and leave feeling confident in approaching projects at home. The first half will be instruction and stitch practice, followed by time to work on whatever items you bring you mend, with Maggie’s support. Folks are invited to bring a couple pieces of clothing to repair. Beginners are warmly welcome.
All levels welcome; all materials provided. Register at haystack-mtn.org/winter-programs.
Maggie Ruth Haaland (they/she) is a fiber artist, herbalist, and facilitator newly wiggling herself into the midcoast soil. They regularly facilitate natural dye, visible mending and herbalism workshops in the northeast, with a focus on connecting folks to themselves, community, and the land. She is currently working on a series of quilts as a way to transmute and be with grief, and believes deeply in the power of creating with our hands as a way to dream new worlds.
