Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery, 1396 Back Cove Road celebrates her 26th annual Eastern Views art show the second weekend of August, the 7th, 8th, and 9th from 10 – 5. The public is invited to view her recent paintings, and enjoy the seaside gardens, refreshments, and conversations. On preview are her prismatic seascapes, which she will also include in Craignair Gallery’s Clark Island show later this August. Visitors will take a dive under the surface of the sea to glimpse her oil paintings of horseshoe crabs, lobsters, oysters, shrimp. Stroll through her colorful garden of watercolors and Asian brush paintings. And travel to the green, green hills of Ireland. During the show visitors will also have the opportunity to peruse stacks of hand-pulled gyotaku fish prints. Last month, the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset filmed Jean demonstrating this Japanese printing technique and plans to have the video available online at www.maineartgalllerywiscasset.org.

Kigel’s annual show happens to fall in conjunction with SOWA’s fifth annual South of Waldoboro open studios featuring eleven  artists. Map available on www.sowamaine.org.

A member of the Union of Maine Visual Artists and the Sumi-e Society of America, Kigel has exhibited her work widely, including in the Art in the Embassies program in Jordan and in France, as well as in galleries in NYC, Maryland, Massachusetts, Vermont and Midcoast Maine.  See more of her work at www.jeankigel.com
