Maine State Museum Presents: Lecture and Book Signing with Donn Fendler

This free lecture will focus on Mr. Fendler’s harrowing boyhood misadventure on Mount Katahdin, where he was lost for nine days without food, water or proper clothing.  His disappearance launched a manhunt which became front page news throughout the nation, and involved hundreds of volunteers. July 2014 marks the 75th anniversary of this amazing journey.  Mr. Fendler’s story of survival is told in the book titled Lost on a Mountain in Maine by Joseph Egan and in the graphic novel Lost Trail: Nine Days Alone in the Wilderness by Donn Fendler with Lynn Plourde and illustrated by Ben Bishop. The books will be on sale at the Maine State Museum Store and Mr. Fendler will be available to sign books after the lecture. Several personal items of Mr. Fendler, including the coat he wore while lost, are on temporary exhibit at the Maine State Museum. The Museum will be offering free admission on Saturday, July 12.
