Lunder Institute @ Colby College Museum of Art
- Date: October 6, 2026
- Time: 04:30 PM - 06:30 PM
- Location: Gordon Center for Creative + Performing Arts, Waterville
Join the Lunder Institute for American Art for a special gathering exploring the transatlantic histories and global contexts that have shaped American art.
Lunder Institute @ invites museums and art institutions to critically examine American art—its histories, futures, and ongoing transformations—through sustained cross-departmental and interdisciplinary conversation. By sharing these internal insights through public programs, the series fosters transparency, collaboration, and fresh approaches to the field.
As the concluding installment of Lunder Institute @ 2026, this multi-day program bridges the initiative’s inaugural 2024 U.S. cohort with international perspectives joining in 2026—bringing thought leaders from Addison Gallery of American Art; Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art; de Young Museum; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Peggy Guggenheim Collection; Royal Academy of Arts; Tate Britain; The Broad; Whitney Museum of American Art; and Yale Center for British Art.
Together, participants will explore how geopolitical connections, transnational histories, cultural production, and collective memory inform the study and display of American art. Through these shared exchanges, the event highlights institutional collaboration as a vital tool to generate new questions and reimagine defining cultural narratives.
This two-night program (4:30–6:30 each night) features evening panel discussions followed by a light reception, offering time to connect directly with speakers, colleagues, and fellow guests. Register or live stream here.
