Project Grant for Artists - Analog Alley Mural Project

  • Date: August 16, 2021
  • Location: Dog Bar Jim, Brunswick

Just in time for the Brunswick Arts Festival a new art project is underway on Union Street. Analog Alley: a long wall of murals adjacent to Dog Bar Jim: The Coffee Shop and the newly established Dirty Larry’s Cone Town. The painting of the murals are already underway at 90 Union Street and are expected to be completed by early September. They are being created by local artists Lisa Alonzo, Averil Burner, Rachael Nimon and Richard Keen. The project was made possible through a grant from the Maine Arts Commission and is expected to take place every August to coincide with the Brunswick Arts Festival. The idea of Analog Alley came from California native Lisa Alonzo and her husband Ben Gatchell, owner of Dog Bar Jim. “Street art can bring so much to a community. I used to really enjoy the long walls of murals like Clarion and Balmy Alley in SF- they were always changing- I’d periodically take a stroll to see what new work was up”, Alonzo said. “It’s a much more approachable way to interact with art for a lot of people who might not enter a gallery.”. The artists welcome the community to engage and watch them work. They will be out working on them all week at various times.
