Proudly She Served

“Are these by a woman?”

Here at The Peace Gallery, I often hear this refrain as people browse our art. Having grown up
with a World War II Marine Corps Veteran mother, this question comes as no surprise. Women
Veterans do not get the recognition they earned and deserve.

On Memorial Day weekend, The Peace Gallery celebrates its one-year anniversary with the
grand opening of our summer exhibition “Proudly She Served,” featuring the artwork of five
women Veterans. We will showcase the dynamic work of these women all summer, along with
work by other newly featured Veteran artists. The show will run from Memorial Day through
October.

The Peace Gallery has accomplished much in our first year. Last summer’s show was a World
War II retrospective. It was a powerful and moving presentation, attracting more than 5,000
visitors to the gallery and Damariscotta. An additional 2,000 people frequented our space for
wellness classes, monthly coffee houses, creative workshops, and other community events.

We look forward to what this Summer will bring!

Sincerely,

Bernie DeLisle, Director and Cofounder
