The Ballad of Daphnis and Chloe Performed by Kerr & Company Theatre August 26-28

The Ballad of Daphnis and Chloe, a new original play by Carmen-maria Mandley is to be performed by Kerr & Company Theatre at Mechanic’s Hall located at 519 Congress Street August 26-28, 2016.

The Ballad of Daphnis and Chloe is (very) loosely based on the Greek myth of Daphnis and Chloe (The only known work of the 2nd century AD Greek novelist and romancer Longus)

In this retelling the young Daphnis and Chloe--both spending each day with each other tending sheep and talking of plain things-- become plagued with some unknown illness which causes stirrings, fevers, and bulges. They believe they will perish from the apparent illness and seek counsel from the wise and not-so-wise. They discover a story with each other that is comic, dangerous, poetic, and thickly sensual. Four actors play numerous roles in this physical, lyrical, funny, and sometimes perilous story.
