About the Artist
Monica Palmes Grabin has been performing since she was a kid in the sixties in New York's beautiful Hudson River Valley, where she absorbed the musical influences of the folk revival, Gilbert and Sullivan (her first musical love), Golden records, the radio, and her father's treasure trove of songs from the 20s, 30s and 40s. Her clear grasp of many different styles, and her love of all kinds of music comes through to any audience, from preschoolers to seniors.
Since 1986, Monica has utilized her extensive repertoire in Singing History programs which are a respected resource for teachers and a delight for listeners. Singing History uses the incredible variety of America's songs and the stories behind them to bring history to life for students of all ages. Topics are carefully researched and include the Civil War, Women's History, Maine History, and many others. Singing History has also been presented at museums, historical societies, and libraries. Performances are always dynamic, interactive, filled with information and a lot of fun.
Monica's latest endeavor is Mom's Home Cookin', a duo with Dale Robin Lockman, specializing in old-time, classic American music. Dale Robin brings many years' experience as a performer to the group, and shares Monica's love of traditional American music, as well as a large repertoire of contemporary songwriting. Mom's Home Cookin' is available statewide for any audience.
