About the Artist
Collaborators for 30 years, Gayle Fraas and Duncan Slade have pioneered dye painting with fiber -reactive dyes on cotton fabric. Their dye painted and printed art quilts and charcoal / pastel drawings have been exhibited in galleries and museums nationally and they have accepted commissions for large scale murals. Completed Percent for Art projects include the Maine Dept. of Marine Resources, Brunswick High School, Jackman K-12 and Waterford Elementary School among others. Collections include the Museum of Art and Design,Philadelphia Museum, Peabody Essex Museum, Fidelity Management and Research, Nuveen Investments and Hilton Corporation. Their work appears in QUILTS TODAY - A LIVING TRADITION, THE ART QUILT, and PAINTINGS OF MAINE and has been on the cover and reviewed in AMERICAN CRAFT magazine. The artist team has been recipients of Visual Artist Fellowship Grants from the Maine Arts Commission 1988-89 and 2002-03, NEA/ Regional/New England Foundation and Banff Center for the Arts. In 1998, the New England Quilt Museum curated a retrospective of their quilts.
