About the Artist
The Bowdoin College Museum of Art is one of the oldest college art collections in the United States. Established by the 1811 bequest of James Bowdoin III, the museum?s holdings are the most significant and comprehensive in the state of Maine. Particular strengths lie in American painting, ancient art of the Mediterranean world; Old Master drawings; a Kress study collection of European painting; prints; and increasingly in photography. To complement the permanent collection, the museum organizes temporary exhibitions, bringing in works and artists from around the world.
