About the Artist

Cape Neddick artist, Patricia Shaw, is fascinated by the play of light and shadows and finds architecture often provides topics that promote the exploration of these elements within the context of her realistic work. Although she loves painting in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, her favorite subject matter is New England. Shaw feels that there is a substance to the region that provides the most inspiration for her work. Another focus of her art has been commissioned house portraits. Many of these are of homes or businesses in the N.E. seacoast area.
A former art educator, Patricia taught fine arts at Portsmouth High School in New Hampshire. She exhibited in November 2000 at the law offices of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton in Portsmouth. She had a one person show at the York Library in November 1999 and in March-April 2002. Her painting, The Summer Porch, took the best of the show and first place established artists awards at the Springtide 2000 show at The Cliff House. Patricia has been a juried exhibitor at the Ogunquit Arts Collaborative in the summers of 2000 and 2001 and an invited participant at the Kennebunk River Club Casino Show for the past three summers. The Summer Porch painting was featured on the cover of summer 2000 Garden Lane magazine, a publication of writings by New England authors. Patricia is a juried member of the MaineArtistAccess Directory and the New Hampshire Art Association. She is represented by Taylor Kumminz Gallery in Portsmouth, NH, The Lupine Gallery on Monhegan Island, ME and Shelton’s in York Beach, ME.
