About the Artist
""Biennale Internazionalle Dell'' Arte Contemporanea""* taking place in Florence, Italy at the Fortezza da Basso 6-14 December 2003 extends a formal invitation to -amb alice mckay barnett to participate as an exhibiting artist representing your country, the United States of America.
She ""paints"" landscapes using rocks collected from that landscape, sorting, crushing, and gluing rocks to wooden panels. Some paintings are actual re-creations of the landscape; others are topographical representations of the geology where she hunts and gathers. Maps, if you will, a hawks'' eye view. Recent works are spiritual in nature.
Barnett earned her degrees from the University of Maine of Farmington and Augusta. Private collectors include Stephen King, the famous Maine author, as well as the Governor of Maine''s permanent collection. Commissions include Bangor Savings Bank of Maine, percent for art public intallations, artist in residency grants. She has shown in numerous juried exhibits. Barnett journeys to ""burningman"" annually, joining 30,000 artists creating and burning artwork.
