About the Artist

Portland-based painter and illustrator, influenced by landscapes, myth and dream to create unique visions of time and place.

Also a life-long comic book artist, Joel is the winner of a 2003 Xeric Grant for his self-published comic, Along The Canadian, which was created shortly after he moved to Maine from San Francisco in December 2002.

Joel has done presentations in schools, is active in the arts/illustration/comics community in Portland and continues to publish new works via the Web and traditional print media, as well as finding time to paint. He recently illustrated 2 Edgar Allan Poe classics for the on-line video website Tale Tube, among other projects.
