About the Artist
Richard Saltonstall lives in Maine. His inspiration is the life he swims in.
Boats, planes, skates and sunshine are a part of the matrix.
Richard is a self-styled backyard guy. He built his own ultralight aircraft.
He has designed and built his own DN iceboat racing components.
Richard is fortunate to live with his own field of dreams. Rusted steel parts
scavenged from the scrap yard grace the view alongside the 14 foot
dagger board from a trimaran and retired skis.
His art is full of life energy and a reverence for nature. Richard
believes in Don Quixote and Ed Abby, french fries and gasoline, the smell of
pine sap and the roar of a mountain williwaw coming like a freight train in the
night to run over the tent.
Richard divides his time from season to season living in the moment and
illustrating his experiences. He is an accomplished intaglio printmaker.
He has his own 40x70 inch press. He paints in acrylic, oil, and watercolor.
His sculptures range from granite and steel to flat relief plywood and
fiberglass composite. Richard has a vivid imagination to complement the wide
variety of his life experiences and a creative ability he uses to bring some of that to his audience.
