About the Artist
Richard Foerster is the author of six books of poetry: Sudden Harbor and Patterns of Descent, both published by Orchises Press; Trillium (BOA Editions, 1998), which received Honorable Mention for the 2000 Poets'' Prize; Double Going (BOA, 2002), which was named a Notable Book for 2002 by the National Book Critics Circle; The Burning of Troy (BOA, 2006), which received the 2007 Maine Literary Award for Poetry; and Penetralia (Texas Review Press, 2011). Among his many honors are the ""Discovery""/The Nation Award, Poetry magazine''s Bess Hokin Prize, two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and one from the Maine Arts Commission, the 2000/2001 Amy Lowell Poetry Travelling Scholarship, and the 2002 Hobart City (Australia) Fellowship for an International Writer. Since receiving his M.A. in English from the University of Virginia, he has worked at various jobs in publishing, including lexicographer, textbook editor, freelance writer, and typesetter. A staff member of the New York-based literary magazine Chelsea for 24 years, he served as its editor from 1994 to 2001. Since 1986 he has lived in York Beach, Maine. A certified teacher, he is available for writing workshops and readings.
