About the Artist
J. Jules Vitai is a sculptor whoses sole medium for the past 22 years has been the Styrofoam cup. My works remained unseen by the public until the Spring of 2000. Since it's introduction, Styrogami has seen a phenomenal period of growth and recognition. Venues have included the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and publication in magazines such as Down East, Yankee, Art New England and Newsweek. Styrogami has been written up in the Maine Sunday Telegram and the Boston Globe. It has been featured on "Weekend Edition" on NPR and "The Osgood Files" on CBS. It continues to delight young and old alike. It is taught in several schools around the country.
