About the Artist

Down East Singers performs choral works in a variety of styles, from Baroque to 21st century. Founded in 1979 by Marion Gray, who passed the baton to Anthony Antolini in 1991, the chorus has established a reputation for inspiring performances of both well-known masterworks and seldom-heard compositions. The group collaborates with the Bowdoin College Chorus to form the Rachmaninoff Choir and can be heard on their CD recording of Rachmaninoff''s Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, which received critical acclaim in the November 1996 American Record Guide. That ensemble has performed throughout European Russia, Siberia, and the Russian Far East, and in many places in the state of Maine as well as in Boston, New York City, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Montreal, Canada. The Rachmaninoff Choir is now preparing for a concert tour of Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria in July 2009.
