About the Artist

Mid-coast Maine artist Susan A. Cooney's primary medium is graphite (pencil) on paper.  She works with Tombow brand professional artist pencils ranging from 3H to 4B and draws on Strathmore archival 100 lb. cotton bristol-board artist paper.  
Susan has a deep connection with water and specifically with the coast of Maine. She feels that by working in pencil, the absence of color helps reveal the complex relationship of texture between tree, rock, water and sky. She is also inspired by the unique quality of light on the water that is the essence of coastal Maine, and of which is the focal point of her work.
