About the Artist
Yvonne Maiden is a painter and installation artist living and working in Portland, Maine. Focused within a figurative practice, Maiden paints expressively with an earthy, overall subdued palette and has historically built related sculptural forms of installation . "As a re-emerging artist, I am revisiting and deepening my exploration of personal and collective mythology, exploring the interplay between human strength and vulnerability. Through painting, sculpture and installation, I create visual narratives that evoke transformation and renewal, engaging memory, time, and the psychology of everyday people,".
Formally educated in the arts at the University of Michigan (1980-83), Hangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (China, 1986) and the San Francisco Art Institute (MFA, 1990) . Maiden has lived and worked in Jerusalem, Israel (1993-95) and was awarded Fellowships at the Vermont Studio Center (2007 and 2009). Maiden also attended Lesley College, Cambridge, Massachusetts (MA. 2000) and practiced as in Art Therapist in Maine for several years.
