About the Artist
Jo Eaton creats one of a kind hats, crowns, and garlands showcasing Sunflowers, fields of Lupines, and landscapes of the Maine forest and coastline. The crowns and garlands are from delicious ribbons and silk flowers.
Designer hats are crocheted from handspun and collected fibers from around the world.
The handspun yarn is from Maine spinners with Jo spinning and dying many of the fibers to exacting specifications. Fibers range from sheep, llamas, alpacas, goats and rabbits grown in Maine - particularly colored sheep from Joe and Judy Miller''s Rivercroft Farm. Often people request that fiber from a pet be spun, Jo has worked with cat, dog, muskox and horsehair that have been blended with 50% wool. This wearable art collection of hats is a delight of texture, color and form.
Programs cover the process of locating and selecting fibers, both raw and commercial, deciding on and planning the design element, demonstration of spinning both plain yarns and those that are used for landscape hats. Display boards feature animals, the various types of fibers and the steps from raw material to finished product. Discussions also include promoting and marketing wearable art.
