About the Artist
The Western Maine Art Group was formed in 1962 with a handful of students of the late Professor Lajos Matolscy, an accomplished artist as well as an excellent teacher of fine art. He was the motivating force behind the group, which acquired an old one room schoolhouse in 1967, now known as the Lajos Matolscy Art Center. Since then, the Western Maine Art Group has been committed to showing quality art in various media. As of January 2003, the art group has changed its format to a cooperative gallery, with member artists sharing responsibilities to insure that the art center functions as a creative showplace for superior art.Located on Main Street Norway, the center has become one of the unique cultural sites in the area, and strives to be a vital participant in the communities affairs. We encourage the public to stop by during gallery hours, Wednesdays through Sundays from 11a.m. to 4p.m. to see some of the finest art in Maine and talk to some of the artists who will be there to answer any questions and be of assistance in any way.
