About the Artist

After 35+ years as a potter Rick is still amazed with the process of transforming balls of clay into works of art. He works with a variety of clay bodies creating one-of-a-kind ceramic art and pottery which is admired for its classic lines and glazes. The work is wheel thrown. Rick believes the work should speak for itself and when used decoration should compliment never dominate the piece. Surface color is achieved thru various firing and glazing techniques using slips and glazes made in the studio on Peaks Island.

The studio is located in his barn at the corner of Island Ave., and Epps St., first building on the right, second floor. The studio exits to develop, sustain and promot art with a focus on pottery and provides artistic, educational and collaborative programs in ceramic art. Richard Boyd Gallery is located on the first floor and exhibits ceramic art, pottery, paintings and blown glass by established and up and coming artists.

Rick is a member of the American Ceramic Society Potters Council, National Council On Education For The Ceramic Arts, Maine Crafts Association, Made In Maine, MEANA and AANA.
