About the Artist

Jerry Stelmok is a Maine native who lives and works in central Maine. His artwork depicts wilderness canoeing scenes, wildlife and lighthearted whimsical pieces grounded in Jerry?s lifelong interest in the woods and waters of canoe country and its? human and wild inhabitants.

Jerry has been paddling wooden canoes since age 14 and observing, drawing, and painting wildlife from even earlier. Over 25 years Jerry has built nearly 500 E.M. White original designs and adaptations at his business Island Falls Canoe, in Atkinson Maine. He teaches canoe building both in his shop and at institutions across the country. He has written several books about wood-canvas canoes.

His latest book ''The Art of the Canoe With Joe Seliga'' won the 15th Annual Northeastern Minnesota Book Award in Nonfiction, Art, and Scholarship category.
