About the Artist
Diana C Arcadipone''s fascination with making art from natural materials emerged from making her own paper for painting and printmaking. This interest in hand made paper enticed her to make shoji screens and study Japanese architecture. She then used those traditional forms and techniques to built her studio in Maine, where she continues her work in natural mixed media.
For several years, she created images of vessels with stitched hand prints on slate and other native stones. The idea for these vessels morphed into symbols of human existence, life and opportunity. They became metaphors for travel and her life experiences.
Arcadipone often works in gouache with mixed media and also incorporates stitching and beading as line elements in her images. Her midwestern heritage of resourcefulness yields natural materials to incorporate into her artwork and she often embarks on extensive travel and outdoor adventures to nurture her ideas, inspire new images and discover materials.
She is currently painting and stitching landscapes inspired by her travels, as a reflection her passion for the environment and nature.
