About the Artist
Maine artist and musician Shana Barry is currently on her Special Secret Island tour of Maine, performing a multimedia show for kids that features storytelling, songs on guitar and ukulele, projected animations and visits from the multi-colored furry Fofers who live on the special secret island of Fof.
On her recently released album ''A Pink Whale and a Very Tall Tree,'' Barry sings story-songs about the adventures of the multi-colored furry Fofers (rhymes with gophers), who live on the island of Fof. They row their boats on the bay and explore the forest, meadow and shore, befriending the wondrous plants and animals who share their island. They ride their bikes down Rollercoaster Road and climb magical trees, up into the clouds, where they discover the Cloud Fofers.
The earliest incarnations of the Fofers were three-foot tall soft and furry dolls. (Barry is also a doll-maker.) While creating the Fofers, she began imagining the world they inhabited, which led to writing the songs for ''A Pink Whale and a Very Tall Tree.''
She recorded ''A Pink Whale and a Very Tall Tree'' at home in Eastport and then decided to make Fof more real and accessible. She taught herself animation and created music videos of the Fofer''s adventures. She designed and launched fofers.com to share the videos and art projects, which include coloring pages, paper dolls and mobiles related to the songs on the album. Now she is sharing her creations with live audiences across the state, performing ''The Fofers multimedia family music show.''
