About the Artist
Founded in 1958, the Kennebec Valley Art Association is a non-profit membership-based art association. We own and operate the Harlow Gallery in downtown historic Hallowell, and we've been working there to connect and celebrate arts, artists and community since 1963.
The KVAA supports the artistic development of our member artists, both amateur and professional, by providing opportunities for exhibition and other professional development at the Harlow Gallery. These include workshops, lectures, demonstrations and other special events. Our policy is to make our space available to a broad range of artists' groups for meetings and events that are important to artistic growth and for the exchange of ideas.
Because we believe the arts are integral to a well-rounded and vibrant community, and can be a key factor in personal growth and self- improvement, we strive to involve the greater community in the arts and to invite them into the Harlow Gallery at every opportunity.
If you appreciate how the arts enhance our unique sense of place and quality of life, please join us. Your membership support benefits the greater community of central Maine by underwriting exhibitions and free arts programming for all ages at the Harlow Gallery. Our members are key to ensuring that we can continue presenting vibrant and varied arts programing at the Harlow Gallery for another 50 years into the future.
Any artist or group may submit a proposal for an exhibition at the Harlow Gallery. Members of the KVAA are especially encouraged to submit proposals. Proposals are initially ranked by certain criteria and current membership is one of these, followed by being a resident of Maine, or having a strong connection to the state.
