About the Artist
Geoff Smith has been making sculpture for 35 years, since graduating from the University of Vermont in 1969. During that time his work has been exhibited, purchased, and commissioned for private collections, public exhiitions, major corporations and art institutions in more than 15 states. Geoff creates both fabricated and carved sculpture in steel, stone, and wood, and casts in bronze. He has been the recipient of three NEA grants for Art in Public Places, was commissioned to create a large-scale Cor-ten steel sculpture to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge, and has a suspended wood and brass sculpture hanging at the Portland International Jetport. Geoff's work is exhibited regularly at two Maine galleries -- the Jameson Gallery in Portland and the Turtle Gallery on Deer Isle. Geoff maintains a summer studio in Little Deer Isle, Maine.
