About the Artist
My work follows in a tradition as I draw through space with wire. My work is about structure, humor, transparency and movement. I enjoy alternating between large, small, simple, and complex forms. I am intrigued by the negative space within and around structure and the evolution of the forms through the process of assemblage. My structures are driven by an interest in and appreciation of traditional and nontraditional basket weaving. Winding and weaving the wire around and around becomes meditative and structural. Often the materials assert themselves and a piece will take on it''s own gestured direction. I enjoy the structural challenges and quiet of working with wire and the serendipitous outcomes. I push the properties and physics of the wire to explore the boundaries of its tolerance. I toy with balance and mobility and as a result some of the sculptures become animated when agitated by a breeze or a bounce in the floor.
