About the Artist
I''ve lived and worked in southern Maine since 1983. I''m a former Bostonian and have a B.F.A. in printmaking from Mass. College of Art. Watercolor study at Kaji Aso Studio has taught me to enjoy the process exploration as well as the image that inspires it.
I now maintain a membership with the York Art Association. My work is fairly traditional in view. I love all works on paper, including the papermaking process itself. I chiefly paint watercolors on paper using a loose brushing that describes subjects and landscapes with light, calligraphic strokes.
My inspiration is the nearly untouched places of Maine, many times the little sights and vignettes that are often missed on a hurried walk. I want my art to be my exploration into the spiritual as found in nature; an encounter with the spirits of rock, tree and water. But I also want the viewer to have a sense of the artmaking process, to let paper, ink, and pigment to transform before you into a recognizable image and back again to paper.
I have also worked in lithography, aquatint, and woodblock printing. My prints usually have a more grounded, heavier hand and describe more playful imagery.
