About the Artist

My work was juried into the 2009 international competition at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, Toronto. I had not entered a sumi-e show for 37 years. However, my sumi-e painting "Salmon Pool" won the coveted Founder's Prize at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Sumi-e Society. I work in many media and generally with spontaneous brush strokes. I love the sea and love to paint creatures both in the sea and on land. Always concerned about the plight of humans on earth, I often will paint people in "the big picture"...showing hope, or despair, working or at rest, contemplating, in motion, in groups in various environments...landscapes, seascapes of Maine places I know. I have worked as an artist all my life and study day in and day out to be able to achieve subjects of interest on paper and canvas. I am a Registered Maine Guide. With 4 cats and my friend Bob, I live year round in Lubec, Maine.
