Gabriella D'Italia has an interdisciplinary art practice, with an emphasis on fiber and process-oriented techniques. She uses physical strategies, such as specific materials and techniques, to research epistemological concerns. Her work has been exhibited nationally, including exhibitions at the Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, Illinois, Cabinet Magazine Exhibition Space in Brooklyn, New York, Wichita Center for the Arts in Wichita, Kansas, Hite Art Institute in Louisville, Kentucky. In Maine: The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport, Aarhus Gallery in Belfast, and Rose Contemporary in Portland. She has been the recipient of numerous grants and residencies, including a Mildred's Lane Residency Fellowship, a Good Idea Grant from the Maine Arts Commission, and the 2011-2012 Chase Distinguished Research Assistantship to complete her thesis research at the University of Maine. This research hinges upon the re-imagination of time as a material entity. D'Italia is co-developing The Institute for Pattern Research (IPR), whose current project is a video work to be completed in 2013.
