Kathleen Hardy Thornton

About the Artist

I grew up in Maine in a family of self taught artists and musicians, learning to paint with oils at a very young age. Recently, I began working with acrylic and find the spontaneity and luminescence of the medium well suited to my personality and style. The sea figures prominently in my life as my family roots go back many generations on the islands of the Maine coast and my work in oceanography takes me to the open ocean for weeks at a time. I am currently working on a series of acrylic seascapes inspired by my work on oceanographic research vessels.
